Public Information Requests    

Texas Government Code, Chapter 552, gives you the right to access government records. All government information is presumed to be available to the public, although certain exceptions may apply to the disclosure of the information. The law requires governmental bodies to release requested information that is not confidential by law, either constitutional, statutory, or by judicial decision, or information for which an exception to disclosure has not been sought.

To obtain information from Real County through a public information request:

1. Submit a request by mail, fax, email or in person. A request by mail can be mailed to P.O. Box 446, Leakey, TX 78873. A request by fax can be sent to (830) 232-6040. A request in person can be hand delivered to the office of the Real County Judge at the Real County Courthouse at 146 Highway 83 South in Leakey, TX.

2. Include enough description and detail about the information requested to enable the public information officer to accurately identify and locate the information requested.

3. Cooperate with the public information officer's reasonable efforts to clarify the type or amount of information requested.

Cost of records: Real County charges $0.10 per page for 8 ½ x 11 size copies. Charges for non-standard copies will be at a higher cost depending on size and format. The charge for labor costs incurred in processing a request for public information is $15 an hour. The labor charge includes the actual time to locate, compile, manipulate data, and reproduce the requested information. A labor charge will not be billed in connection with complying with requests that are for 50 or fewer pages of paper. Real County will give you an estimate of charges before the work is undertaken. You must respond to any written estimate of charges within 10 days of the date Real County sent it or the request is considered automatically withdrawn. If estimated costs exceed $100.00, Real County may require a bond, prepayment or deposit
